Step 1: Understand Business Goals and Involve All Departments

Before you start listing requirements, it’s important to understand the overarching business goals. What does your organization aim to achieve with the digital transformation? Consider goals like increasing operational efficiency, improving customer satisfaction, quality goals, and fostering innovation. Digital transformation impacts every department within an organization. Therefore, it is crucial to assemble a multidisciplinary team that can provide input from various perspectives. Involve representatives from IT and OT, marketing, sales, HR, finance, and production to get a complete picture of the requirements.

Step 2: List the Requirements

Once you have assembled the multidisciplinary team, you can start listing all the requirements. This can be done through workshops, interviews, or surveys. Most organizations prepare requirements per department. Go for a structured approach when drafting your requirements and prioritize each demand or wish.

Step 3: Appoint a Product Owner

Once each department has prepared all the requirements, it is essential to appoint a Product Owner. A Product Owner reviews all the requirements and ensures they are aligned with the general vision of the digitalisation project and the added value. Since the requirements may be prepared by each department seperately, you need someone who can critically review these documents with a comprehensive vision. Your product owner must be sure that all the requirements contribute to the added value which your organization wants to realize with this digitalisation project.

Conclusion

A successful digital transformation starts with thorough preparation and listing all requirements. By understanding business goals, involving all departments, and listing the requirements, you lay a strong foundation for your transformation process. This ensures that your organization is ready for the future.
